TWO MORE POACHED ELK FOUND NEAR GLENDALE; TOTAL NOW REACHES SIX ILLEGALLY

Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife troopers at the Roseburg Area Command office are seeking the public's help in this morning's investigation into the illegal killing of two more large bull elk in the Glendale area. These are the fifth and sixth bull elk shot in open fields and left to waste in that area since the end of October 2007. Troopers believe the same person(s) are responsible for killing all the elk in this area over the past 8 months.
On the early morning hours of July 10, 2008, a local resident out walking found two dead bull elk that had been shot while standing in a large opening just off McCullough Creek Road. One of the elk, a 5X5 branch antler bull, had apparently died shortly after being shot and had gone to waste prior to a trooper being able to salvage it. The other larger 6X6 bull elk was still alive when officers arrived but it had to be killed. The trooper was able to salvage the meat and it was given to a local charity.
Information from local residents indicates three shots were heard just prior to 4:00 a.m. this morning.
A reward up to $6000.00 has been set up by local land owners, elk hunters, and the Roseburg Chapter of the Oregon Hunters Association for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing the elk.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Oregon State Police office in Roseburg at (541) 440-3334 ext 3417 or the Oregon State Police Hunter TIP line at 1-800-472-7888.
