The Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division in Heppner is continuing to ask for the public's assistance in locating the person or persons responsible for the unlawful take and waste of six deer in Morrow County. In addition to a reward offered through the Turn in Poacher Program and a local Heppner rancher, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and The HSUS Wildlife Land Trust offered $2,500 to boost the reward to $3,500 to help solve this case.

  OSP Trooper Mike Mayer is continuing to investigate the unlawful killing of six deer within five miles of the Heppner city limits between August 20th and September 1st. Initially five deer, including one whitetail doe and
  four mule deer does, were found illegally killed in the Heppner area when investigating troopers found a sixth dead deer.
 
  The deer appeared to have been killed in the same manner during evening hours on private property. They were found in the Sanford and Lunceford canyon areas, and along Balm Fork Road and Sand Hollow Road.
 
  'This is another example of how callous and irresponsible poaching is,' said Scott Beckstead, Oregon state director for The HSUS. 'This is a crime that all too often goes unpunished, and The Humane Society of the United States applauds Oregon State Police for their aggressive and committed enforcement of anti-poaching laws.'
