The Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division in Newport is continuing to ask for the public's assistance in locating the person or persons responsible for the unlawful take and waste of a five point bull elk in Lincoln County. In addition to a reward through the Turn in Poacher Program, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and The HSUS Wildlife Land Trust are offering a $2,500 reward to help solve this case.

According to OSP Trooper Ryan Kehr, on the opening day of archery season, August 30th, he received a complaint of poached bull elk off of the Forest Capital 2200 road east of Devil's Lake near Lincoln City. The elk had been dead for at least a day and had been left to waste.

'Poaching is not only callous and irresponsible, it's also a crime that all too often goes unpunished,' said Scott Beckstead, Oregon state director for The HSUS. 'The Humane Society of the United States applauds Oregon State Police for strongly enforcing anti-poaching laws.'

The reward is in addition to the initial reward offered through the Turn in Poachers (TIP) program, which is administered through the Oregon Hunters Association, for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s).

Any person with information in this case is asked to contact Trooper Kehr at (541) 270-0097 or the TIP hotline at 1-800-452-7888. Information may be kept anonymous.
